Dr. Zhe Cheng is a postdoctoral research associate working with Prof. David Cahill at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He got his PhD with Prof. Samuel Graham and Prof. Baratunde Cola at Georgia Institute of Technology at 2019 and was a special research student working with Nobel Prize Winner Prof. Hiroshi Amano at Nagoya University.

His research interests include: 1. Pushing the limits of thermal metrology for characterizing materials and interfaces; 2. Thermal management strategies of wide and ultra-wide bandgap devices (GaN-on-diamond and
β-Ga2O3 devices); 3. Advanced thermal packaging by heterogeneous integration; 4. Ultra-sensitive thermometry for measuring temperature and heat; 5. Memristors for neuromorphic computing;  6. WBG/UWBG semiconductors based quantum sensing.
